Our History
The Story of Zion Celebration Church
The story of Zion Celebration Church (ZCC) began in November 2001, when three men — Joshua Kadenge, James Garama and Julius Ziro — were sent by their church to plant a new congregation.
The new church began meeting in a rented hall, with Joshua Kadenge appointed as pastor. At the time, the church operated under the licence of Celebration Centre for Christ Ministries in Kenya.
A New Home
In 2005, a group of Girl Guides came to help build Mikoroshoni Primary School. During their time there, around 30 pupils from the school began attending Zion Celebration Church.
Concerned about the condition of the church's building, the Girl Guides took photographs home and raised £3,000 to help the church purchase land.
In 2008, that land was purchased, providing a permanent home for what became the headquarters of Zion Celebration Church in Shanzu, near Mombasa.
Becoming an Independent Church
The church continued to grow and establish new congregations in surrounding communities.
In 2013, Zion Celebration Church was officially registered under its own name and licence, becoming an independent registered Christian church in Kenya.
Growth Since 2023
By 2023, ZCC had grown to a network of 34 churches, with 18 directly planted by Zion Celebration Church.
Since then, the church network has continued to grow significantly.
Today, ZCC supports and governs 64 churches, of which 45 were directly planted by ZCC. The remaining churches are affiliated with the denomination and operate within the legal framework provided by ZCC.
This growth represents not only an increase in the number of churches, but also the development of a wider network of pastors, leaders and congregations serving communities across rural Kenya.
Continuing the Mission
Today, ZCC continues to share the Gospel, plant and strengthen churches, equip pastors and Christian leaders, and provide practical help to people facing poverty and hardship.
The church has grown considerably since its beginnings in a rented hall, but the purpose remains the same: to share the Gospel, strengthen churches and be a light to the communities we serve.
As ZCC continues to grow, so do the opportunities to reach more people, support more communities and see new churches established.
We give thanks to God for how far He has brought Zion Celebration Church and look forward to what lies ahead.
